"Let all your things be done with charity." -1 Corinthians 16:14
This verse sat in my mind during the last few weeks of 2021 as I contemplated my "goal" or "resolution" for the new year. I thought about it whenever it popped into my head and I even started reading 1 Corinthians 13, also known as "The Love Chapter." It was here that I learned charity not only means love but it is also translated in the Greek as "self-sacrificing concern." Doesn't that put the verse above into a new light? To do things with "self-sacrificing concern" is a selfless act. It requires selflessness. Simply put, I want to show selflessness by helping others out of love and compassion for them. I want my motivation to be God's glory, doing things out of love for Him and out of a deeper love for His people. I already know how impossible this can be to accomplish but, by His grace, this is my aim for 2022. No doubt there will be times I fail miserably at this goal, but with His help I can press on and strive to do things out of love for others and--most importantly--for Him. Along with my discovery of this different aspect of love, I realized that Jesus is the prime example of showing self-sacrificing concern for us, by laying down His life for us, dying in our place and taking our sins on Him--all out of love and while we were still His enemies. Isn't His love absolutely amazing? Rejoice in Him today, friends. He loves you, despite the mistakes and failures that have marked your life. He. Loves. You. Now that is something to rejoice in this year! What are your goals for 2022? Is there a verse that has been pressing on your heart? If so, I'd love to hear about it!
